I remember being a little girl and watching the movie My Secret Friend: A Guardian Angel Story. Bits and pieces of the story still come to mind, all these years later: some goofy villains, the sweet little girl and her bunny, but especially one particular scene where the family’s car is skidding toward a cliff until it is stopped by a giant statue of an angel on the side of the road.
Even as a child, I was impressed by that very concrete idea: my guardian angel will help me when my family is driving in the car. Apparently it stuck with me, because few years later, when my family got in a fender bender, I remember thinking about that scene in My Secret Friend and feeling so relieved that our guardian angels were with us in that accident, just like they had been in the movie. It’s amazing to me, thinking back, that God used this one image from a movie that I saw as a child to reassure me of His Love and Fatherly protection of me in the moment of my car accident.
I’m so pleased to see the Saints and Heroes Collection, which has been a staple in Catholic children’s movies for three decades, arrive on FORMED. These beautifully animated movies tell the inspirational stories of heroes of the faith. Using laughter, stories, comedy, and songs, they are truly capable of captivating the minds and hearts of children with God’s love. My prayer is that God will continue to use these powerful stories to reach the hearts of children, just like he reached mine.
