The Merriam-Webster 2017 Word of the Year reveals a hidden yearning for clarity in our society. Feminism was a top lookup throughout the entire year of 2017, and saw several spikes corresponding to major events of the year such as the Women’s March on Washington D.C., the release of the film Wonder Woman, and the string of high-profile news stories relating cases of sexual harassment and assault.
