“And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry” (Matthew 4:2). The devil perceived Jesus’ hunger as weakness and tried to tempt him in the desert; however, Jesus’ fasting armed him with a clarity of mind that strengthened his refusal of worldly things. This month, we have the opportunity to make ourselves hungry, to remove distractions and pleasures, that we may clearly understand that only God can truly fulfill.
